But I really enjoyed your little story about your Joseph, it made me laugh. I know it must be hard for you, but it was so well-written :)
- andrea
PS: I've given you the Versatile Blogger Award, if you'd like to take it, you can find it here: http://wordyliving.wordpress.com/2011/09/25/thank-you/Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6525161379578984040.post-80219938282696031732011-09-21T16:23:46.927-04:002011-09-21T16:23:46.927-04:00It can be so frustrating to get those calls. It gives a structure to the "gift economy" and makes it sound like the type of obligations that we want-- non-monetary, non-transferable, difficult-to-quantify.

But I am now blown away by David Graeber's new book the history of Debt (which I am only 1/3 the way through, but scribbling it up, reading it aloud to family members and generally loving it). It is grounded in anthropology to find the underpinnings of economic relations get expressed. And it is not what I thought.

Here is an interview that might show his thinking. http://www.nakedcapitalism.com/2011/08/what-is-debt-%E2%80%93-an-interview-with-economic-anthropologist-david-graeber.html

Anyway, it is a bit way from Karma, but it is all about how to live together well.Brewster Kahlehttp://brewster.kahle.orgnoreply@blogger.com
